PROVENANCE : Probably Saqqara, Khawam Brothers.

A well rendered representation. The face is round, tapering at the chin, the nose is flat and short, the mouth wide and lips thick. By comparing this image with other surviving 2d representation, it is clear that this image is yet anouther powerful representation of an individual.

Nykara's titles:
Greatest of the tens of Upper Egypt, scribe, chief of the granary, overseeer of the granary of the residence, overseer of the two graneries, overseer of all marshlands, overseer of officials (?), overseer of all beekeepers, overseer of all subshade-bearers, overseer of the pondfowl(?), overseer of the palace, overseer of Hut-Ihut (city in the western Delta), [overseer of] book-scribes of the granary, overseer of the houses of the royal children in the two houses, preist of [Sha]u[ra], preist of Ra in (the sun temple of Niuserra) Shesepibra, [priest of] Horus Set[ib]ta[wy].

Statue is executed in wood, with inlaid eyes. The inlaid eyes indicate that this statue represents a powerful Egyptian man, not a "Nubian slave" or a foreigner as sometimes described in standard texts. Obviously, this individual was an egyptian, as we can still see large flakes of the traditional "red-brown" paint around the eye areas.

The photo on the left illustrates that large restorative work has taken place on this particular statue. Note that the cracks around the eye area, have recently been reparied.
