1) Hair texture
Archeological work in Nubian-Egypt indicates that the hair textured was varied, and ranged from straight to very kinky, coarse and wooly. Similar variety in hair textures still exists in contempary Southern Egypt and Northern Sudan.
2) Hair Color
Egyptian art shows that black hair was the norm. But we also find examples of mummies that have dark brown, light brown, red, and even blonde hair. Regarding red hair, it was shunned and very uncommon. Ancient mummies with red hair probably indicate that the eumelanin pigment in the hair has broken down (see below). Some famous mummies, such as Rameses II have been studied and the red hair coloring indicates this break down (see below).
3) Hair Grooming
Hair was grooming and in a variety of different styles and flavors.
